Creative Shootout: Artistic Portrait Shoot with Real People (Teresa Vick)
Limited Capacity full

The purpose of this styled shoot is to bring photographers together to meet each other, share ideas, learn, and achieve fanciful and feminine fine art portraits. Attendees will shoot on the beautiful plantation grounds, with multiple models dressed in attire that is perfect for capturing beautiful movement. This shoot lends itself perfectly to photographers who already enjoy (or want to try) shooting creatively with special lenses (lensbaby, tilt-shift, etc.) and creative shooting techniques (freelensing, shooting with a prism, copper pipe, or plastic baggie, etc.). All skill levels are welcome. Teresa will guide and direct the models with a hands on approach, adjusting the details as needed while explaining the reasoning behind her suggestions as the shoot progresses. Attendees will walk away with the knowledge and confidence to coordinate and execute their own artistic portrait shoot using real people.

Teresa will strive to provide as much shooting time for attendees as possible while also guiding, leading, and providing tips to the group along the way. Participants will be walking as a group to different locations on the plantation grounds that were scouted and planned before hand. The first 10 minutes of the program will be dedicated to introductions and an overview of the shootout. Teresa will answer any questions people may have and then the group will break into the guided shooting portion of the program (approximately 80 minutes).

Remember to bring your camera and all the creative shooting techniques and gadgets that you've been dying to try out!

Location: This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.

Attendees will:
1. Walk away feeling empowered to create their own artistic portrait shoot, maybe even with their clients.
2. See how styling from clothing stores like Target, fabric accessories, wind, and light can play a huge role in fine art portraits.
3. Be introduced to Teresa's most used, (and very simple!) techniques for shooting creatively (freelensing, lensbaby spark, plastic baggie, and movement).
4. Watch as Teresa Vick poses, arranges her scenes, and directs models when shooting.

Film in Any Light: Gain Confidence for Your Next Indoor Family Shoot (Halee Betzner)
Limited Capacity seats available

Film needs and loves good light, but that doesn't mean that it can't be used inside with only natural light on a gloomy day! This program will give attendees the confidence to work with film using natural light indoors, including less-than-ideal natural lighting situations indoors. I will show how to set up an indoor shoot, teach what film stocks to use and how to use them correctly, plus share how to get creative with clients.

We'll start with a discussion about shooting indoors in general, including finding the best light in your shooting space and getting creative with your clients in these spaces. We'll talk about the film stocks that are the most flexible when shooting indoors and how to shoot with them, plus what metering techniques work best for different situations. I will then proceed to show how I pose a family in the home, demonstrating how I adjust settings and meter while moving around in changing light. Attendees will then have the opportunity to shoot while I answer questions and continue to talk about camera settings and demonstrate posing techniques. Discussions will also include information about pushing film, as well as how to communicate effectively with your lab.

Students are encouraged to bring a film camera (35mm or medium format) and Kodak Portra 400 film (can also bring Ilford HP5 400 or other black and white films, as well as Kodak Portra 800 if desired). Bringing a handheld light meter would be helpful, but it is not required. Students should be able to load film and have a basic understanding of film concepts. Those that are brand new to film are more than welcome to come and watch, too! Feel free to bring digital equipment if you'd like to shoot. Questions are welcome throughout the discussion and shooting.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
1: Set the scene: Find where to shoot with the light you have available when using film. Get creative in a home-like environment to set up the best lighting and shooting scenerios for you and your clients.

2. Film technicalities: Learn what stocks to choose for lower light situations. Understand how to push film, how to not being afraid to push film, and what stocks push well.

3. How to shoot the session: Learn to meter correctly, capture families in the spaces scouted and/or set up, and provide creative results.

Posing with the Flow (Julie Paisley)
Limited Capacity full

Most people struggle with posing. They get stuck and don't know what to do next or they feel like they do the same thing over and over. Oftentimes poses can feel stagnant and lifeless. I want to show you how to "pose" and have a system, but at the same time keeping it natural. As wedding photographers, we have to be efficient but how do we do that without getting stuck in a rut? I'm going to show you how. In this class, I will begin by showing you how I prepare my clients for my style and approach. Then I will shoot a real couple while attendees observe, showing you my flow, my cues, and how I interact with them to get them in the pose that I want. After the shoot we will head back indoors and go over the images, giving you a chance to ask questions and interact. There will even be a time for you to pose the couple (if you wish) with me offering critique. This class is not just for wedding photographers, it is for anyone who wants to improve their posing with couples, even if you only shoot families.

Storytelling: The Lifestyle Approach to a Family Session (Chloe Ramirez)
Limited Capacity filling up

What if we photographed families the way we looked at our own lives? What if we took the time to get to know our subjects, REALLY get to know them, before putting them in arbitrary poses? What makes your subjects' hearts soar? What's their favorite thing to do as a family? What happens when we strip away everything that doesn't apply, would we be left with what really matters? Would we be left with images your subject can truly connect with and that you're proud to have in your portfolio?

In this class I will break down exactly how I approach a storytelling family session. From the very first email, to how I photograph and interact with my subjects during the shoot, to the final product. Attendees will be able to watch how I navigate a lifestyle family session and have the opportunity to photograph the family as well. This class will take place in a home-like suite at the hotel.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
Like all good stories there is always a beginning, middle and an end. I will take this class through my entire process for a family storytelling session.

Part 1. Laying the groundwork for a successful storytelling session.
-emailing with my subjects, getting to know them beyond just their names
-my questionnaire: a tool I use to help gather information about my subjects' background, interests and what their day to day life looks like
-presenting my direction for the session to my subjects

Part 2. Photographing a storytelling session
-how I communicate with my adult subjects during a shoot to foster an environment for them to be their authentic selves
-tricks I use for keeping kids actively engaged during a 2 hour shoot
-allowing room to ""go with the flow"" while still having complete creative control over the session

What Lies Beneath: Exploring the Depths of Underwater Photography (Elizabeth Blank)
Limited Capacity full

Utilizing the beautiful, heated lap-pool at Racquet Park, the Omni's Health & Fitness Center, students will be introduced to the world of underwater photography. The program will begin with a discussion about the different types of underwater cameras on the market (point and shoots, DSLRs, etc.) and the wide variety of underwater housing units available to photographers. Elizabeth will fully discuss the gear that she uses when shooting sessions underwater, as well as the gear she uses to optimize her personal endurance under the water (mask, snorkel, weighted belt, anchored weights, and preferred clothing to shoot in). After a comprehensive discussion on gear, Elizabeth will explain the settings she uses for achieving stellar images underwater and will demonstrate how her underwater housing, the SPL underwater housing unit, is assembled and used. After any questions have been answered about gear and settings, Elizabeth will do a live shooting demonstration in the pool with models.

The indoor pool at Racquet Park is situated under an expansive skylight and this will allow natural light to beautifully light the pool water and mimic the effects of being in an outdoor setting. The instructor will guide students on how to find the most pleasing light in the pool and how to best guide the subject to interact with that light. The instructor will then spend time photographing the subject underwater while attendees observe from the side of the pool. After the shooting demonstration, Elizabeth will answer any questions the students have about the process. If time permits, Elizabeth will also explain and demonstrate how to achieve split-level photographs in the water (one half of the image is above water while the other half is below). The program will wrap up with Elizabeth answering any lingering questions attendees may still have.

Learning Objectives:
- Students will learn what types of underwater cameras and housing units are currently on the market from the most budget-friendly iPhone underwater cases to the most intricate underwater housing units (and everything in between!).
- Students will learn how each housing unit is used to ensure water damage does not occur.
- Students will learn what additional equipment is necessary for achieving underwater imagery (masks, weighted belts, anchored weights, etc.).
- Students will learn what manual settings the instructor uses when underwater.
- Students will learn how to identify the best light available within the pool.
- Students will learn how to guide their subjects toward the most favorable light and then instruct them how to interact underwater with that light.
- Students will learn how to prepare their own body to ensure stabilization once under the water.
- Students will observe the instructor's body movements and actions as she photographs a subject under the water.
- Students will learn what a split-level image is and how they can achieve this in the water.

Creating Space for Magic: A Live Beach Session (Posy Quarterman)
Limited Capacity full

Life is naturally beautiful, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to WORK to capture that beauty authentically. Those unscripted moments that occur between parents and children are a natural part of their daily lives, but making room for that magic to occur – in the short time you spend with a family – is what my class is all about. Part instruction, part live demonstration (to prove my methods work!), this class will explore ideas about what it takes to grow a family photography business without sacrificing your vision, creating space for magic inside a session, and making sure your business fulfills your needs as deeply as your clients'.

After a 30-minute talk covering the above topics, I'll show you how I work with families by photographing one (on the beach!). I love learning new techniques for working with families by watching other photographers, so as a result I teach by way of demonstration. You will watch me shoot (which includes posing, playing, tips and tricks) for 45-minutes or so, after which there will be some time for questions. You are not required to bring your cameras and will not be given specific time to photograph the family, however if you would like to bring your camera and shoot from behind/around me, you are more than welcome to do so.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objectives:
1. We will discuss how to run a thriving family photography business that fulfills your needs as deeply as it does your clients'.
2. We will delve deep into the prep work leading up to a truly authentic family session, including my new client guide and questionnaire.
3. Learn my tips, tricks, and techniques for coaxing those coveted magic moments out of a family, light posing, and my shooting style.

Family Shoot on the Beach: Capturing the Golden Light & Perfectly Imperfect Posing (Kansas Pitts)
Limited Capacity full

I will begin this program by sharing my go-to settings and general session flow with my family clients as well as how I prepare my families to mesh into my "imperfectly perfect posing" approach, probably better known loosely as lifestyle posing. We will talk about timing (whether beach or not) and how to schedule your sessions to capture that golden light to perfection. Then we will move to the beach where I will demonstrate how I work with my families to capture those raw, in-between moments while still delivering the stunning everyone-smiling-at-the-camera image that moms with younger kids value. All clients want a little of everything so I will work to show you how to get an amazing and diverse gallery for your families.

I will demonstrate placement of my subjects as it relates to the light source, dealing with different types of lighting situations (overcast, full sun, partly cloudy, etc.), posing/unposing, working with children of all ages, and dealing with different size families all while producing both great posed images as well as semi-posed and true lifestyle images.

Attendees should know how to use manual mode on their cameras, have a general knowledge of changing settings on the fly, and be passionate about working with kids and families!

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objectives:
1. Watch how I choose to place subjects depending on location of light source.
2. Learn how I photograph in different types of lighting situations.
3. See my settings for golden hour images.
4. Learn my approach to posing/shooting, including ""unposing"" (those true in-between moments), posing, semi-lifestyle, and true lifestyle shooting.
5. Learn to pose different size families.
6. Gain an understanding of posing families with children of varying ages.

No Shoes Required: The Unposed Family (Shalonda Chaddock)
Limited Capacity filling up

The beach is not the easiest location to choose for a family session. The sound of the waves makes it hard to hear, the wind makes getting the perfect smile-at-the-camera picture nearly impossible, and the sand and water are not only hard on your camera but make it hard to keep children's attention! But the beach can be your client's happy place and favorite session location – you just have to remember that a successful beach shoot starts with you! You must be able to show clients how to relax and let their story unfold.

Join me in a hands-on shooting demonstration with a family, where I will walk you through tips on how to capture genuine family connections while in a location as distracting as the beach. I will show you my own useful techniques to guide clients through a series of games and prompts that allow you to capture the perfectly imperfect moments that happen in between, as well as discuss how to protect your gear while shooting on the beach. While interactive attendee shooting at the end of the evening will be possible, the main goal of this shooting demonstration program is to provide an opportunity to show you exactly how my family beach sessions flow.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objectives:
- Learn how to get clients to relax and let their story unfold while at a distracting location.
- See a peek into the games and prompts that I use to produce genuine connections during family sessions.
- Learn tips for having fun but keeping control of a session.
- Learn tips for protecting your gear during a beach shoot.
- See a demonstration of how I photograph a typical family session at the beach.

Photograph a Family in One Room: Cultivating Confidence Out of Unpredictability (Amy Rushbrook)
Limited Capacity filling up

As photographers we are sometimes limited by light, weather or space. Unpredictable situations can throw a photographer's confidence. So what do you do if the only good light is in one area of the client's home? I have mastered the ability to photograph an entire lifestyle family session in just one room and I'll share my techniques in this class. I have a range of strategies including an essential shot list which can be applied to every single family shoot ensuring enough variety, including time to get creative, all in the one room of a family's home. For this class, we will all be photographing a family using these tools in a beautiful, home-like suite. There will be lots of opportunities for guided shooting and Q+A throughout the class.

I have shot many client sessions in one room, and I believe in my ability to provide clients with a full gallery of varied and beautiful images despite this limitation. This is an element of what I teach when I am mentoring here in Australia, because I know so many photographers panic in situations where the light throughout the client's home isn't ideal or they are limited by other unpredictable factors like weather or physical space. This demonstration would give photographers the tools they need to navigate this kind of situation with confidence.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
- Find the best light in your client's home and know how to use it.
- Shoot an entire family session in one room while creating a diverse gallery for your client.
- Develop your own essential shot list which can be used at every family session.
- Learn how to analyze and critique your work to build on your essential shot list with signature poses, angles, etc.
- Go into every shoot with the intention of creating or trying something new, and know when to try something new during your sessions.

Portrait of a Mother (Erin Brant)
Limited Capacity seats available

The love that exists between mother and child is the sweetest and most pure love there is. This class will focus on highlighting that bond through beautifully simple portraits. You will learn how to remove distractions from the image to emphasize the most important element in these portraits: connection. There is a magic that emerges when only a woman and her baby fill the frame. You will learn how to recognize it, capture it, and even draw it out when necessary. This minimally styled shoot will include three micro sessions with three different mother/child pairs (children will be between the age of 12-24 months). Attendees should have experience shooting in manual mode. Please bring your camera and your favorite wide angle and/or portrait lenses.

The class will begin with a brief overview of Erin's philosophy and approach to photographing mothers with their babies. You'll learn how to prep your subjects and give advice on clothing choices to support your vision. There will be a brief Q+A before moving on to the sessions. Erin will give a quick shooting demonstration including offering guidance on lens choices, settings, angles as well as what to say and do while working with mothers and their babies. Attendees will then have the opportunity to photograph the subjects. After the shooting has concluded the mothers will come back out for a quick interview about their experience and why these portraits are so important to them.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to interact with subjects in an intimate and sometimes vulnerable setting.
2. Develop a deeper understanding of how to use shadow and light to emphasize the connection and touch points between two people.
3. Master the use of a small, stark space to create a strong set of gorgeous and dynamic images.
4. Recognize what a powerful and important gift this is to mothers (who are often exhausted and overwhelmed by all this love and change in their lives).

Life is naturally beautiful, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to WORK to capture that beauty authentically.

Limited Capacity seats available

This shoot will be a combination of demonstration and hands-on learning focused on intentional uses of natural light, posing, and framing to compose one-of-a-kind couples' portraits. We will focus primarily on techniques that can be used in any natural light, at any location, and with any type of subject to transform your portraits from average to eye-catching and unique with a fine art feel. These techniques will include posing cues that bring out your subject's personality, using objects to artistically frame your subject, and maximizing the environment you're in no matter how big or small it may be or how much time you have to shoot.

Students should bring their cameras and have experience shooting in manual mode. Feel free to bring along any interesting objects to experiment with while shooting, such as broken glass, prisms, colorful plastic, etc.

Love in Motion: Creating Dynamic Family Photos with Heart and Joy (Erin Brant)
Limited Capacity full

Learn to lead a family photo session that goes beyond typical posing and prompts! You'll be guided through an activity-based shoot that results in fun, beautiful and authentic family photography! In this live shooting demonstration (with a stylish and energetic family of five or more, children ages 2-10) you’ll see how a photographer’s unique personal energy and enthusiasm can be used to facilitate positive interactions as well as redirect or diffuse challenging situations. Families with small children rarely sit still and this class will teach you how to use all of that motion and energy to your advantage! The course will cover anticipating (rather than creating) moments, connecting with your subjects on a personal level, managing camera settings in different environments when both the photographer and subjects are moving; quick framing strategies; what to do if you feel stuck; and so much more. By prioritizing a positive, carefree experience and ditching expectations you will learn to create gorgeous, joy-filled photos with every family you shoot!

This is class will be most beneficial to photographers who are already comfortable with light and composition but want to develop deeper connections and authentic emotion in their photography. It will teach photographers who are typically more stationary to move with their clients, think on their feet, and get more actively involved in the fun!

The class will begin with a short introduction covering Erin's philosophy and approach to family photography as well her shot goals for the session. You'll then move on to the shooting demonstration. Q+A will take place during natural location transitions and at the end of the class.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn to quickly and efficiently scan your environment and available light to determine the optimal location(s) to shoot with families of different sizes and energy levels.
2. Develop confidence in being yourself with clients and see how your own ability to be vulnerable and connect impacts how they respond to you and the camera.
3. Receive new examples and ideas of specific ways to interact with children to energize, subdue, and redirect them when necessary.
4. Gain an alternate perspective on shooting kids and families that emphasizes encouraging motion and then recognizing shots as they are developing rather than posing and directing to a specific set look or idea."

The Terribly Terrifying Two Year Old: Learning to Embrace the Chaos (Brekke Johnson)
Limited Capacity seats available

This energetic, interactive program is designed to give you a behind the scenes view of how I approach sessions with toddlers. I will give you some of my favorite tips for working with this sometimes terrifying age group! By learning to speak their language, manage your clients' expectations for the session, and being respectful of the desires of the toddlers that you are shooting, you will learn to make beautiful, joy-filled images that the parents will love!

In this boutique session, I will begin with a short presentation on the learning objectives listed below, then you will watch as I shoot one of the model families in an abbreviated session. After the shooting demo, we'll break into smaller groups and each group will have their own model family to work with. I will answer questions and shoot alongside the attendees during this portion of the program. At the end of this boutique, you will have learned new tricks and inspiration for working with toddlers and you will be able to add fun, family photographs to your portfolio!

This will be a very interactive program between the attendees and myself and also between the attendees and the models! Please bring your camera, as we will have lots of shooting time. I primarily shoot with a 24-70 mm lens at family sessions but recommend you bring both a wide and long lens if you have them.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.

Learning Objective:
1) You will learn to speak ""toddler."" Effectively communicating with the toddlers you are working with will make everyone's lives SO much easier!
2) You will learn how to manage your clients' expectations. We all know that toddlers will do the opposite of what we want them to! It's important to make sure that your clients are aware that sometimes ""Pinterest shots"" don't happen, and that's okay.
3) You will learn how to work with (and around) the toddler who wants NO part of the camera and also with the toddler that is TOO into the session (you know, the ones who are grabbing your lens, sitting in your lap, holding onto your legs, etc.).
4) You will learn how to look for and capture the in between moments. These are the moments that are truly representative of the family's life and often the images that will be most meaningful to your client.
5) You will learn how lens choice is important depending on the mood (yes, mood!) of the child that you are working with and also the final image that you are wanting to create.

Composition: Bring Your Photographs to Life! (Lissa Chandler)
Limited Capacity full

Do you ever shoot a gallery and, once it's done, look over the images and feel like they look a little bland? Do you ever stand at a session and, in between frames, think to yourself, "I want to show something more"? Do you ever feel like your photographs have so much more to say than they are actually saying? You've come to the right place!

In this class, we will talk about how composition can breathe life into photographs. More specifically, we will address how making use of diverse compositions in one gallery can bring your work to life. Don't get stuck shooting safe compositions all the time! Come to class and learn how composition can add magic to your work and, by extension, your whole perspective on photography. Composition is such a crucial aspect to photography and, by discussing composition techniques while photographing a couple, attendees will learn why environmental portraits, incredibly close portraits, and portraits framed with environmental elements (leaves, flowers, light, etc.) all contribute to galleries that explode with emotion.

Attendees should bring their camera and their favorite lens to class. While this class is primarily a shooting demonstration, attendees will have the chance to photograph the bride and groom. Lissa will use a Canon 35L for the duration of the class.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how to use wide compositions to show environments.
2. See how to use tight compositions to show emotion.
3. Learn how to use framing elements to showcase environment and emotion.

Creative Beach Shoot: Using the Treasures of the Beach to Make Your Images Strong (Marcie Reif)
Limited Capacity full

The beach is full of treasures that, when used correctly, create very compelling imagery. There are shapes, textures, leading lines, light, color, and movement on the beach that can’t be replicated anywhere else. We will hunt for these treasures and learn to position our subjects and ourselves around them to create strong compositions.

We will start with one of the strongest elements the beach has to offer: the light. I will share how I shoot in various types of lighting at the beach. We will discuss camera settings and lens choices. I will demonstrate how to use the light we are given to our advantage, and how it can add strength to our image. We will discuss lens choice for the light we have on this day, and practice with our child models. Attendees will be in small groups and each group will get a chance to photograph the models. I will also discuss my Lensbaby lens, and talk about why I love using this lens at the beach.

Next, we will get creative as a group and search the beach for treasures that will strengthen our image. We will look for leading lines, color, spaces that will lend themselves to movement, and beautiful shore lines. Different items on the beach lend themselves to different styles of shooting as well. We will discuss how we might shoot a family session on the beach as well as children playing on the beach. If the conditions are right I would love to get in the water and play on the shoreline with my underwater camera gear. I will show the attendees how I put my camera in my underwater bag, and what settings I use since I won’t be able to change them much once it is in the bag. Attendees can enter the water with me or just watch if they don’t have their own equipment. The children will splash and swim in the waves while we photograph them. Depending on the light during this session we will discuss how certain types of light can really strengthen images in this setting. We will end the session with questions and time for open ended discussions on whatever attendees would like to learn.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objective #1 We will discuss lighting situations on the beach and discuss which lenses lend themselves best to creating a strong image, including my favorite wide angle and portrait Tamron lenses, as well as my favorite Lensbaby tilt shift lens. Different light scenarios would include sunrise, full sun, cloudy, sunset, and dusk. We will take advantage of whichever light scenario we are given to make our images stronger. I believe that you can create magic with any light at the beach if you use the right lens and place your subject correctly. While on the topic of lenses, we will also discuss why I like to use a Lensbaby, how I use it, and other creative lenses I like to try out at the beach.

Learning Objective #2 We will hunt for leading lines, shadows, textures, color, movement, and structures that create shapes. One by one, we will talk about how we could place our subject near elements at the beach to create a strong image. Some of these elements may be boardwalks, the shoreline, sand, lifeguard stands, trails, tall grass, even birds. We will place our models near some of these things and discover how they can make our images stronger. We will also focus on the wind at the beach, learn some cool techniques, and see some simple items we bring to the beach to help achieve amazing images with movement.

Learning Objective #3 Attendees will learn how to achieve shots of their subject in the water. I will get in the water with my subject who will be splashing around on the shore and I will photograph him/her using my underwater gear. If attendees have underwater gear they are welcome to get in the water and practice shooting our model. If they do not, they can watch us splash near the shore and see how I place myself and set my camera up. All attendees can learn how to document the movement of the water and joy-filled images of children.

Great Light Anywhere: Achieving a Natural Look in Lifestyle Photography with Artificial Light (Kim Hildebrand)
Limited Capacity filling up

Have you ever wondered how to take creative in-home lifestyle images even on the darkest of days? In this hands-on lifestyle session for digital and film shooters, Kim will photograph a family with kids like she would any in-home session, using a film camera and artificial light in a lifestyle suite. She'll show you how and where she sets up her strobe to get all subjects evenly lit without looking like flash photography. She will walk you through how to take a meter reading (if you are shooting with film) and how to adjust exposure in camera to create your desired vision. Kim will test the lighting set-up with a digital camera as well to give attendees instant feedback on the lighting. She will then photograph the family by replicating a normal session and take breaks to allow attendees to ask questions and practice. She'll photograph the family in a minimum of two locations to show how she sets up the strobe or flash in each setting based on the end result she is looking for. Lastly, Kim will demonstrate how you can still achieve a natural-looking lifestyle session with artificial light on the darkest of days and how all of this does not alter the family dynamics or restrict your creative choices. Attendees will have an opportunity to practice photographing the model family although they will be asked to take turns based on the number of wireless triggers available. Digital and film attendees should have experience shooting in manual mode. Gear needed: Digital or film camera; flash and flash triggers (beneficial but not required). Film shooters are responsible for bringing their own film and external light meters.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
1. Attendees will learn how to shoot a family lifestyle session with artificial light while getting the look of natural light on a digital or film camera.
2. Attendees will learn when and how to use artificial light in a lifestyle setting.
3. Attendees will learn about the types of artificial lighting and the additional equipment that Kim chooses to use for family sessions.
4. Attendees will learn where to place the artificial light for two different shooting situations in a home-like environment.
5. Attendees will learn how Kim balances ambient and flash exposure to achieve her desired outcome.

Storytelling: The Lifestyle Approach to a Family Session (Chloe Ramirez)
Limited Capacity full

This boutique program will feature a loving, expecting couple and their children styled in a whimsical way to reflect the gorgeous setting and vibe that only the ocean can provide. Between poses and combinations, participants will be invited to shoot along with me and practice the settings and positions I recommend as well as contribute their own ideas! There are no prerequisites for this program except for a desire to have fun and see what beautiful shots the Atlantic coast at golden hour brings us. I can't wait to share this experience with you!

This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Magic Light at the Beach (Kristin Dokoza)
Limited Capacity full

The sound and movement from the wind and the waves will be our inspiration for a golden hour shoot at the beach. We will discuss and explore subject placement in relation to the setting sun; learn how to creatively include lens flare, movement and atmosphere in our portraits; and play with silhouettes and shoot for a high key look. I will explain how I look for details that tell a story of place, including what elements to include that strengthen an image and elevate your vision.

Working with 1-2 models will allow us to explore how to include the environment and be creative with light. This will also allow me to slow down the process and let the attendees see what I see before getting the chance to shoot. The focus of this class is about playing with different perspectives, using the light to tell a story, and capturing the details. The model(s) will have a few stylized props on hand that we will include to enhance movement, texture and the light. Shooting at the beach can be tricky. This will be a class where we address the technical aspects of beach shooting, as much as finding creativity using the elements in the environment. I am passionate about shooting at the beach and ocean. This will be a fun and creative shoot where you will be encouraged to ask questions and try out your own ideas!

Students should have an understanding of shooting in manual mode.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the beach/boardwalk.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn what lenses to use and best aperture choices in various scenarios.
2. Understand proper exposure when shooting in back light.
3. Learn creative light use for the setting sun, and how to use the environment for bounced light.
4. Understand how to incorporate movement and atmosphere.
5. Explore photographic elements to enhance the story of an image.
6. Gain experience giving direction to subjects.

No Shoes Required: The Unposed Family (Shalonda Chaddock)
Limited Capacity full

Planning and Executing a Successful Shoot with a Couple (Cody Harris)
Limited Capacity seats available

This demonstration program will be a combination of posing/directing a young couple mixed with prompts and tactics I use to not only connect with my couples, but have them honestly connect with each other. I will run through my typical pre-shoot process for attendees and explain how I improved the couple's experience even before the shoot. For example, I am hands on with planning locations, time, expectations and getting my couples excited before the shoot day. I will go through how and why we choose certain outfits and colors while staying true to the couple's personal style. I will also explain how I build rapport with every couple before our shoot. During the shoot, I take the class through my process and explain not only what I do, but WHY I am doing it. I believe there are specific tactics that work and make a shoot go smoothly. I will also explain the many little things I am thinking about in relationship to lighting, composition and being able to visualize a photo without losing touch with my couple. At the end of the day, the photos are for the couple and it takes balance of skill and personality to fully execute an honest, emotive session that is fundamentally sound or more importantly, visually stunning.

Location:
This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.

Learning Objectives:

1. Be able to build a system of communication with your couples that ensures maximum comfort and trust.

2. Learn to effectively plan and envision a shoot while making it a collaborative process.

3. Recognize the elements that make visually pleasing photographs with true emotion.

4. Discover how to establish a genuine relationship with your subject."

Creative Beach Shoot: Using the Treasures of the Beach to Make Your Images Strong (Marcie Reif)
Limited Capacity filling up

Limited Capacity seats available

This shoot will be a combination of demonstration and hands-on learning focused on intentional uses of natural light, posing, and framing to compose one-of-a-kind couples' portraits. I will walk through what I initially look for as I scout a location as well as my thought process as I'm actually shooting with my subjects.

Location: This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.

Great Light Anywhere: Achieving a Natural Look in Lifestyle Photography with Artificial Light (Kim Hildebrand)
Limited Capacity seats available

Low Light Through Genres: A Creative Exercise (Carolina Gonzalez)
Limited Capacity seats available

Join Carolina Gonzalez in a small group setting as she leads an interactive dialogue and creative exercise using window and low light. In this intimate group setting we will discuss how low light can be used and manipulated to convey mood and voice through your imagery. Learn to embrace shadows and how to utilize directional light to create depth. As a photographer who focuses on photographing her children's day to day lives as well as offering lifestyle and documentary sessions to clients, the ability to work creatively indoors is paramount. We will discuss the importance of in-camera settings and their effect on the resulting images (for example: the importance of shooting in RAW and setting custom white balance using Kelvin). There will be a short instructor-led shooting demonstration with models, highlighting how Carolina positions herself and her subject in relation to the light to create a variety of imagery. Carolina will also discuss and demonstrate how she combines freelensing with window light to create soft and emotive portraits. Students should have experience shooting in manual mode. A 50mm or wider prime lens with a wide aperture is recommended. Students who would like to experiment with freelensing should bring a light lens (such as a 50mm f/1.8 or 85mm f/1.8). Lensbaby lenses and optics may also be used and are encouraged for this creative class. Students will have the opportunity to shoot models alongside Carolina as well as split into groups to put into practice the creative techniques discussed. While for demonstration purposes this boutique will have models to photograph, the techniques covered can be applied through any genre of photography, whether your lens is focused on human subjects, pets, florals, still life, food, or macro.

Location:
This indoor boutique program will take place in a home-like hotel suite for a lifestyle shooting experience.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn and discuss how to look for different types of available light and when to use each.

Photograph a Family in One Room: Cultivating Confidence Out of Unpredictability (Amy Rushbrook)
Limited Capacity seats available

Composition: Bring Your Photographs to Life! (Lissa Chandler)
Limited Capacity seats available

From there I will demonstrate using the documentary approach with a family in a home-like hotel suite. The program will wrap up with attendees being able to photograph the family as well.

The class will include discussion, lots of opportunities for questions, a shooting demonstration, and attendee shooting.

Attendees should be comfortable shooting in manual. A 35mm lens or wider is recommended for documentary shooting.

Love in Motion: Creating Dynamic Family Photos with Heart and Joy (Erin Brant)
Limited Capacity filling up

Magic Light at the Beach (Kristin Dokoza)
Limited Capacity filling up

Location:
This boutique program will take place an open indoor space with natural light and easy access to an outdoor patio overlooking the ocean.

Learning Objectives:
To demonstrate a flow using 4 basic poses
To demonstrate ways to get natural interactions
To demonstrate how to be efficient with your posing without getting stuck in a rut
To demonstrate ways to get to know your clients so that they feel at ease
