Photographing All Skin Tones: A Styled Session that Celebrates Diversity (Tomayia Colvin)

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity seats available

Whether you shoot weddings, high school seniors, or babies, this hands-on course will give you the tools to expand your business and create a stunning portfolio filled with lustrous images of all skin tones. You’ll leave this session with an arsenal of ways to grow as an artist, expand your portfolio, and capture darker skin tones without fear.

In this outdoor boutique program, join Tomayia as she photographs in the lush gardens of Amelia Island and explores the challenges of capturing multiple skin tones in one image. Tomayia and attendees will work together to photograph a group of high school friends whose ethnicities vary. During this session, you’ll learn Tomayia’s secret for properly exposing each client’s skin tone while maintaining the proper exposure for the entire image. Because Tomayia knows editing darker skin tones can be complex and intimidating, she will share her fail proof ways of ensuring your images are flattering for all of your clients. Tomayia will also share her recommended list of Lightroom actions and presets that are great for African American and darker skin tones.

By the end of the session, you’ll understand how to shoot and edit African American skin tones. You’ll be filled with confidence knowing that you can photograph African Americans, and all ethnicities, in any scenario. You’ll also learn how to diversify your portfolio to attract more clients of color.

After the course, you’ll be added to Tomayia’s mentorship group, “The Photography Coffee Shop”, where you’ll be supported. In this group, you’ll able to share your images and questions to continue learning. You’ll have access to monthly shooting challenges and opportunities to have a virtual cup of coffee with Tomayia to discuss your photography journey. Tomayia believes in nurturing and caring for each attendee in her course long after the conclusion of her workshops.

This outdoor boutique program will take place on the grounds of the plantation.
